  1.              INSTRUCTIONS FOR FIRE FIGHTER

  4. There has been no rain for months.  Lightning strikes throughout the area
  5. have caused fires in twenty-five forests.  Your job as fire fighter is to
  6. get to these fires before they destroy homes.
  7.  
  8. You begin in the forest the park rangers refer to as Forest #25.  To reach
  9. the next forest, you must put out all of the fires before the time runs
  10. out and save at least 50% of the houses.
  11.  
  12. You have three tools to assist you in controlling the fires:  a hose,
  13. an ax, and a shovel.  The hose squirts out fires while leaving behind
  14. scorched ground that helps contain the fires since fire cannot jump over
  15. burnt sections of ground.  The ax chops down trees to clear the way so
  16. you can approach the fires. And finally, the shovel digs fire breaks to
  17. also help control the fires in that fires cannot jump over fire breaks.
  18. The forests also contain rocks that serve as natural fire breaks.

  20. You move about the forests with either a joystick or the keyboard.  See
  21. below for details on the input device you will be using.

  23.                                    JOYSTICK
  24.  
  25. Use the control pad (arrow pad) on a game pad or the stick on a joystick
  26. to move through the forests.  Use one fire button on the joystick/game
  27. pad to activate your tool and the other button to toggle through your
  28. tools.
  29.  
  30. Your joystick/game pad will automatically be calibrated while the game
  31. is loading.  You should avoid pressing any buttons or the control pad
  32. while the program is loading because this will interfere with the
  33. calibration process and your joystick/game pad will not work properly
  34. in the game--wait for the title screen to appear.

  38. Use the arrow keys to move through the forests.  Use the space bar or
  39. enter key to activate your tool.  Use the tab key to toggle through your
  40. tools.    You can also use your mouse to select tools.
